| Military: | George was attested on 25th January 1900 - into the Queen’s (Royal West Sussex) Regiment, Ser. No. 6298 and served on home soil until 16th October 1900. From 17th October 1900 to 23rd January 1904 George served in South Africa, taking part in the 2nd Boer War. From 24th January 1904 to 24th January 1912 he served on home soil, transferring to the Army Reserve on 24th January 1904, discharged on completion of service period on 21st January 1912. George was attested on 26th October 1914 - 2nd Battalion Queen’s (Royal West Surrey) Regiment, Private 1151 for service in The Great War. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission grave registration entry for George was “RUSH, Pte. George 1151. 2nd Bn. The Queen’s. Died of wounds 13th Sept., 1915 Age 33. Son of Mr. and Mrs. William Rush, of South Lopham, Norfolk. Served in the South African Campaign.” |
